Research activity

1. Cursus and training

PhD Nutrition Sciences, University P. Sabatier Toulouse, 1985 -
Master in Animal Physiology and Biochemistry, University Toulouse III, 1981
Employed at INRA since 1985, Research director since 2000.

2. Major research activity

My research program aims at understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying nutrient utilization for energy purposes. I study the consequences of dietary supply on energy metabolism and body composition (energy stores) of farmed fish, using rainbow trout as the main model. The objectives are i) to reduce nitrogen utilization for energy production in order to limit nitrogen wastes and to enhance protein deposition ii) to manage body fat depots through nutritional strategies to improve fish flesh quality. In ongoing studies on fishmeal and fish oil replacements by alternative protein and lipid sources, I am also looking at the potential interactions between genotypes and diets. I use genomic tools to identify the metabolic pathways that are affected by the dietary changes.
