BIOGECO is coordinating the European Network of Excellence EVOLTREE that operates since 2010 as a self funded network under the umbrella of EFI (European Forest Institute). The network gathers 23 research groups from 13 European countries.
The main objective of the network is to facilitate and implement research in the field of ecosystem genomics by linking four major disciplines (Ecology, Genetics, Genomics, and evolution) in order to address global issues (biodiversity, global change). To this end the network maintains and upgrades resources and infrastructures that were installed during the EU-funded period such as the virtual eLab, the DNA repository centre, the intensive study sites. The network also facilitates access and use of these resources and infrastructures. EVOLTREE contributes also to training by organizing summer schools and facilitates dissemination of knowledge through a dialogue with stakeholders.
BIOGECO hosts the Quercus portal which is the Platform of European genomics and genetic data in oaks, and other genera of the Fagaceae. Quercus Portal provides access to various databases of genetic and genomic resources and ecological information. It comprises also a special section devoted to general information on the genus Quercus.
Quercus Portal is plugged on the Evoltree eLab (electronic Lab) cache system developed by Dieter Kopecky and Johanna Schmidt from the Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH. It was constructed within EVOLTREE and is currently administrated by Francois Ehrenmann (fehrenma_at_pierroton.inra.fr).
