Prof. Pete Kennedy : Research into bee ecology & movement at the University of Exeter’s Cornwall campus

Prof. Pete Kennedy de l'Université britannique d’Exeter

Profile

My research looks at ecosystem service provision by insects, with particular emphasis on pollinator ecology and behaviour. I work to establish techniques and capabilities for cutting-edge research into the effects of environmental change on invertebrates. I also develop new projects linking ecosystem service provision with landscape users and businesses.

Research interests

  • Insect ecology and behaviour
  • Developing technologies to study insect movement patterns and behaviour in heterogeneous landscapes
  • Effects of parasites and pathogens on social behaviour and colony development
  • Regulatory and policy mechanisms to manage interactions at the human-environment interface

Current projects

  • Evaluation of off-the-shelf technologies for their potential to track Asian hornets (Vespa velutina)
  • Pollinator ecosystem services
  • A systems approach to understanding the impacts of sub-lethal doses of neonicotinoids on bumblebees and honeybees
